MENTAL VACATION VISUALIZATION

  1. Find a comfortable position. Your head can be up or down; close your eyes, or turn your gaze to the floor. 

  2. Now, begin to create a picture in your mind of a place that is really peaceful to you--it can be anywhere. (Pause for 3 seconds.)

  3. Start with the physical layout of the place you are imagining. You might envision somewhere outdoors or indoors. Create an image of this place. (Pause for 3 seconds.)

  4. Who is in this place? Are you alone? Are there other people present? Animals? Imagine who is at your place. (Pause for 3 seconds.)

  5. Focus now on the relaxing sounds around you in your peaceful place. (Pause for 3 seconds.)

  6. Imagine the sensations of touch, including the temperature or any breeze that may be present. (Pause for 3 seconds.)

  7. Focus now on what you see: the colors, shapes, objects, plants, water--all of the beautiful things that make your place so enjoyable. (Pause for 3 seconds.)

  8. Enjoy your peaceful place for a few more moments. Imagine a feeling of calm in this place where you have no worries, cares, or concerns; a place where you can simply relax. Know that you can return to this place in your mind whenever you need a break. (Pause for 3 seconds.)

  9. Open your eyes, and maybe take a stretch overhead as if you’re waking up for the second time today.
